Honoring Eleanor Roosevelt is a public-private partnership between the National Park Service and the National Trust for Historic Preservation and was founded by Hillary Clinton as a priority project of Save America’s Treasures.  Val-Kill Cottage was the only home that belonged to Eleanor Roosevelt and it is the only National Historic Site dedicated to a First Lady. Mrs. Roosevelt gathered strength at Val-Kill, nurtured her ideas, entertained friends, family and world leaders and made a life for herself after the death of President Franklin Roosevelt.

The remarkable modesty, independence and humanitarian leadership that made Eleanor Roosevelt the “First Lady of the World” are reflected in the Cottage’s rooms, furnishings and surroundings. No other place allows visitors to connect with, rediscover and appreciate anew this woman whose influence is still so widely felt.
