In
1998 First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton created Save American's
Treasure's, a public private partnership with the goal to safeguard
America's cultural and historic heritage. First Lady Laura Bush
is now the Honorary Chair and Richard Moe, President of the National
Trust, and Susan Eisenhower, noted author and granddaughter of
former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, are co-chairs.
Honoring
Eleanor Roosevelt: A Project to Preserve Her Val-Kill Home is
a priority project of Save America's Treasures. Founded in 1998,
Save America's Treasures operates as a partnership between the
National Park Service (NPS), the country's major cultural agencies
and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Honoring Eleanor
Roosevelt promotes the legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt by restoring
and preserving Eleanor Roosevelt's beloved home at Val-Kill in
Hyde Park, New York, the only National Historic site dedicated
to an American First Lady, and by enhancing the visitor's experience
at the site. We do this in partnership with the National Park
Service.
With
its Park Service partners, Honoring Eleanor Roosevelt also is
developing interactive exhibits and films that enable visitors
to grasp and fully appreciate Eleanor Roosevelt's impact on generations
of Americans.
The
organization is run on a volunteer basis and is currently chaired
by Carol Hillman. Honoring Eleanor Roosevelt is supported by generous
contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations.
